We were recently contacted by a friend of ours, Thom Burgess, to read his new comic book Malevolents. Being a nerd at heart and having read countless comic books I was happy to indulge. The horror genre of comics have at times left me wanting more, but my fears were quickly squelched after only reading the first few pages of Thom’s sinister story.
“Mr. Thom Burgess knows very well that the most frightening tales are those told in whispers. Malevolents Click Click: Out from darkness, fear creeps in – and slowly intensifies until you are overtaken by it.”

One of the things that makes comic books appealing to me is the ability to tell a story through art. The images almost pop off the page and come to life in one’s imagination. Setting my eyes on the first page of this book I was instantly hooked on its visual appeal. The artwork is both gritty yet detailed giving an unsettling vibe from the very beginning.
The story gave me a nostalgic feeling of watching a more chilling and terrifying episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark. The characters are relatable and are set in an everyday environment giving me the feeling that this could have happened to me. In my opinion, some modern-day horror attempts to paint a broad stroke that most times fall flat. Thom keep you engaged in this intimate yet engrossing tale of horror.
What kept with me while powering through this addictive horror story was the feeling of not being able to escape. This feeling is something that always gets me when watching or reading horror stories. This impending doom is what makes Thom’s story stand out and stick with you far after you have turned the last page.
We wanted to congratulate Thom and his amazing accomplishment is creating this terrifying tale. If you are into the horror comic genre picking up this book is a no-brainer.
