Ghost Evidence & Haunted Places
EVPs, apparitions, shadow figures and famous hauntings are easy to make spooky. They are harder to document well. This is our running guide to the cases with enough history, source material or original evidence to justify a closer look.
HOW PW ASSESSES GHOST EVIDENCE
A haunted reputation is context, not proof. We separate a location’s documented history from paranormal claims, then examine each recording on its own terms.
- Provenance: Who recorded the evidence, when, where and on what device?
- Continuity: Is the full recording available rather than a clipped highlight?
- Environmental controls: Who else was present, which light and sound sources were nearby, and what ordinary causes were tested?
- Independent corroboration: Did another witness or device register the event?
- Interpretation: A voice-like sound is not automatically a spirit voice, and a human-shaped light is not automatically an apparition.
GETTYSBURG: THE 2001 “MARCHING FIGURES”
Delia and Tom Underwood recorded one of Gettysburg’s best-known ghost videos in the Triangular Field in 2001. Delia later said the recording was made in October; a separate video listing says November. The exact date is not independently established. Delia described brief lights and pale forms that looked to her like soldiers moving among the trees.
The family is named and the location is specific, but the available video lacks enough detail to identify the forms as apparitions. Our published report includes a source-linked upload, the witness interview and the date discrepancy.
EASTERN STATE PENITENTIARY: A PW-ORIGINAL EVP
Paranormal Warehouse’s archive describes an investigation at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia in which team member Chris reportedly heard a voice through headphones that was later present on the recording.
The legacy account exists, but the original audio still needs to be located and reviewed in full. Without the complete recording, its context and cause remain uncertain. No audio is presented here as verified paranormal evidence.
STRAUSS MANSION: THE SHADOW VIDEO
New Jersey’s Strauss Mansion has years of locally reported haunting activity. Investigator Greg Caggiano described a shadow near a second-floor bathroom window after a Halloween 2014 investigation and a separate shadow movement across a library bookcase, in an account published by the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society.
The footage has a traceable investigator and location, but PW has not obtained the uncompressed original video or environmental controls required to exclude ordinary causes. A shadow is not a verified apparition.
THE BELL WITCH: HISTORY BEFORE THE HAUNTING
The Bell Witch is a well-known Tennessee haunting legend. Separating later folklore from historical sources about the Bell family and the development of the story is more useful than treating every retelling as a contemporary account.
The Bell Witch belongs to the history of American folklore; the survival of a story does not verify its supernatural claims.
CURSES, TABOOS AND PARANORMAL CULTURE
A 2026 story about paranormal creator Jiang Xiaorou became a curse narrative after an older recording of her challenging a religious taboo was circulated following her reported death. A supernatural causal link has not been demonstrated.
The general lesson is to distinguish a documented event from a supernatural explanation attached afterward.
WHAT WE DO NOT COUNT AS STRONG GHOST EVIDENCE
Dust, insects, reflections, autofocus, rolling shutter, compression, distant speech and expectation can produce convincing anomalies. That does not mean every clip is fabricated. It means source context matters more than a spooky crop.
Anonymous hallway videos without an original uploader, location or recording chain stay out of this evidence archive until their origins can be established.
